ICONSIAM is one of Bangkok's most recognizable modern landmarks and one of the clearest symbols of how the Chao Phraya riverside has transformed in recent years.
Opened in 2018 on the Thonburi side of the river, the massive complex quickly became a major destination for both tourists and locals.
About ICONSIAM
What makes ICONSIAM different from many shopping malls in Bangkok is its attempt to combine luxury retail, contemporary architecture, Thai cultural elements, and public riverside spaces in one place.
Inside are international brands, cafés, restaurants, art spaces, and event areas alongside zones designed to showcase Thai identity in a more modern format.
Inside SookSiam
One of the most talked-about sections inside ICONSIAM is SookSiam, an indoor market-inspired zone designed around Thai regional culture and food.
The space combines local dishes, traditional crafts, desserts, floating market inspired décor, and regional products from across Thailand in a more modern and air-conditioned setting.
ICONSIAM reflects a modern version of Bangkok where luxury malls, local food culture, and the Chao Phraya River all exist side by side.
Riverside Atmosphere
The riverside promenade is one of the biggest reasons many people visit ICONSIAM even without plans to shop.
In the late afternoon and evening, the riverfront becomes filled with people watching boats pass by, taking photos, relaxing near the water, and enjoying views across the Chao Phraya River toward old Bangkok and nearby luxury hotels.
One of Bangkok's most popular modern riverfront promenades.
Thai food and local culture presented in a contemporary indoor market.
City lights, fountains, and river reflections create a lively evening atmosphere.
The area outside ICONSIAM also regularly hosts festivals, concerts, art events, and New Year celebrations, making the atmosphere change throughout the year.
Although the complex feels modern and luxurious, the surrounding area still connects closely with older riverside neighborhoods like Khlong San and Talat Noi, creating an interesting contrast between old and new Bangkok.
Visitor Information
ICONSIAM is directly connected to BTS Charoen Nakhon and can also be reached by shuttle boats from Sathorn Pier.
The best time to visit is usually from late afternoon into the evening, when the riverside atmosphere becomes cooler and the city lights begin reflecting across the river.
