Wat Phra Sri Maha Uma Devi, widely known as Wat Khaek Silom, is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Thailand and one of the clearest reflections of Bangkok's cultural diversity.
Although the temple stands in the middle of Bangkok's modern business district, the atmosphere inside feels completely different from the office towers and traffic outside.
About the Temple
The temple was established in the late 19th century by Tamil Indian traders who settled in Siam and became an important part of Bangkok's commercial community.
Today, the temple remains one of the main religious and cultural centers for Bangkok's Hindu community.
The Hindu Community
The temple is dedicated to Goddess Uma Devi, also known as Parvati, one of the most important deities in Hinduism.
Inside the complex, visitors will also find statues of Ganesha, Murugan, and other Hindu deities connected to South Indian traditions.
During the Navaratri festival, Silom Road transforms with massive Hindu processions, music, and ceremonies that continue late into the night.
What to See
Bright colors, detailed carvings, and Hindu sculptures.
Daily prayers, flower offerings, and traditional ceremonies.
Indian restaurants, flower stalls, and local shops around the temple.
Many people visit the temple to pray for love, career success, prosperity, and good fortune.
The surrounding streets still retain traces of Bangkok's Indian community, with flower shops, Indian fabric stores, and traditional restaurants nearby.
